Webinar on 'How cool are the Green Buildings?'

TERI Council for Business Sustainability (CBS) conducted the sixth webinar in the series of 'Thought Leadership Webinar' for Indian companies and businesses.
Given India's commitment under the Paris Agreement and the Kigali Agreement, there is a surge in the usage of HVAC systems in India is being coupled with the potential to embed energy efficiency features and use of cost-effective low GWP refrigerants. The National Building Code has requirements on the use of zero-ODP and low-GWP refrigerants. In the green building space this assumes immense importance. This webinar was focused on this transition and captured the leadership initiatives among Indian businesses. The key points of discussions included:
- Understanding legislation and choice of the right refrigerants;
- Rethinking equipment design, installation, and operation for greater efficiency and sustainability and
- Lesson learnt on what has worked and what hasn't
Mr Arupendra Nath Mullick Vice President - TERI Council for Business Sustainability (CBS)
Arupendra Nath Mullick, with his vast experience, leads inter-disciplinary research teams to undertake varied initiatives pertaining to sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, and climate change for Indian businesses. His role extends beyond project management and includes knowledge sharing, networking, and communications. As the Vice President of TERI Council for Business Sustainability, Mr Mullick develops sustainability roadmaps and steer CXO level engagements for Fortune 500 companies to articulate the business case of sustainability. He has trained mid-level corporate sector executives, Railway Officers, government officials, and CAG auditors on varied subjects. He has led development of a first-of-its kind sustainability dashboard for a NSE-listed chemical sector client to align sustainability goals with its business objectives and measure progress of sustainability performance. In addition, he has several research papers and presentations at various national and international fora to his credit.
Randal Newton Vice President - Enterprise Engineering, Ingersoll Rand
Randal Newton is the vice president of Enterprise Engineering at Ingersoll Rand. In this role, Newton is responsible for leading the global refrigerant technology strategy for Ingersoll Rand including the Trane and Thermo King brands. He also manages four Ingersoll Rand Engineering and Technology Centers globally, including centers in Bangalore and Chennai, India, Shanghai, China and Prague, Czech Republic.
Newton has more than 30 years of experience with increasing responsibility in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) industry with Trane and Ingersoll Rand.
Prior to this, he held various positions as vice president of Global Product Management for Chillers and Air Handlers, Global Vice President Engineering for Chillers and Air Handlers and Vice President Operations for Trane Chiller and Air Handler factories. In these roles, Newton oversaw the transition from HCFCs to HFCs in applied products. Newton has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. He is a longtime member of ASHRAE.
Muthukrishnan M Head-Environment, DIAL-GMR
Dr. M. Muthukrishnan, is the Head of Environment Department at Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), having more than 12 years of experience in Aviation Environment Management. He is a Chemical Engineer and has done his Doctorate on Separation Technology at IIT Delhi, India and alumnus of IIM Kozhikode, India. He is a member of ACI Asia Pacific Environment Committee.
He is a Certified ICAO Trainair Plus Course Developer and ICAO Safety Management System Professional. He is the SME for Environment Protection and Sustainability development at Delhi Airport and one of the ICAO - STP course developer on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and Operation of Airport Infrastructure.
He is a Lead Auditor of Environment Management and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems and also a certified Dangerous Goods Regulation professional. He has also written various international publications and books on environment & membrane technology.
He is leading the projects of Delhi Airport on Airport Noise Standard Development for India with DGCA and Ministry, Environment Clearance of Delhi Airport - Expansion to 109 MPPA capacity, ACI Carbon Neutral programs, Sustainability Reporting, Green Building Certifications, Green Company programs, ISO System implementations & IGI Community Compliance programs. He also delivered lectures on Aviation Sustainability Management to Indian Aviation Academy, India; Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Germany and University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, India.
Akash Deep Program Manager, GRIHA Council
Akash Deep, B.Arch. (Hons.), M. Arch. in Sustainable urban design and creative urban practices (Glasgow University), is working as Program Manager, with GRIHA Council since September 2011. While spearheading the GRIHA Coucnil team, he has been supervising evaluation of project registered under various GRIHA rating variants. He has helped in development and streamlining the various rating processes. He has headed the design and development of various IT tools used for evaluation process, website, apps etc. During his service with GRIHA Council he has also organized multiple GRIHA training workshops for more than 300 projects, successfully conducted many national and international level conferences. Presented the GRIHA case at UNFCCC Bonn, Germany on recognition of GRIHA as India's own rating system in GoI NDC's. He has worked extensively in implementing GRIHA through various site visits conducted all over the country. He has also initiated the GRIHA student engagement program and conducted training in various government and private institutes successfully.
He has many published articles both in print and online media covering various sustainability aspects across the city level issues. Co-authored the book titled: ZEMCH: Toward the Delivery of Zero Energy Mass Custom Homes. He also has varied experience in project designing and has worked on many projects across urban, architectural, interior and landscaping designing etc.
